Paver Sealing: Preparation, Appearance, and Maintenance

The finish you see is only as good as the preparation underneath. A guide to sealing pavers well, from deep cleaning to the right sealer for your surface.

Why seal pavers at all?

Sealing can enrich color that sun has faded, help keep joint sand in place, and make future cleaning simpler. It gives driveways, patios, and pool decks a finished, cared-for look.

Preparation is the job

Sealer locks in whatever is beneath it. That's why deep cleaning, weed and growth removal, and proper drying come first. Joints are re-sanded where needed so the surface is uniform and stable.

Choosing a finish

Different sealers produce different looks, from natural to a richer "wet look." The right choice depends on your pavers, their age, existing coatings, and your goals.

After sealing

Curing time and when you can walk or drive on the surface depend on the product and weather — your provider should give clear instructions for your project. Re-sealing intervals vary with sun, traffic, and moisture.
